2023 Emerging Adults Internship

For the fourth year, the MD Department of Human Services will offer a comprehensive educational experience for
emerging adults ages 16-20 to develop their understanding of the operations and programs of its Social Services
Administration (SSA) and other Executive Offices within State & Local Government. SSA is committed to providing
emerging adults in MD foster care with a solid foundation in the public administration field related to the delivery of child welfare services statewide.

Participants will experience working in a fast-paced environment and develop office management skills including verbal and written communication, resume writing, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. As we leverage lived experiences, youth will have the opportunity to participate in focus groups and offer ideas for service improvement that benefit youth in foster care statewide. Each jurisdiction can nominate one youth or encourage many young people to apply, but ultimately only one youth will represent the jurisdiction if all other slots are filled.

The deadline to apply is Friday, June 23, 2023 unless special accommodations have been made. There are 24 slots available, and applicants will go through an interview process for selection. Applicants will be notified of their interviews by Monday, July 3, 2023, and their acceptance or waitlist status for this program by Monday, July 24, 2023. Interns and volunteers will be notified of their match by Monday, July 31, 2023 in preparation for the start of the internship.
